Chalet CHEF 2026/27 season

Wanted for our privately owned 19-bedroom chalet situated in the quiet village of Servoz (commune of Les Houches 74310) CHAMONIX VALLEY.

The chalet hotel is a home from home, family-friendly environment for members (all joint-owners), their family and guests. Operating since 2000, we hire a seasonal team each year to the chalet where we provide owners and guests with a full chalet winter experience. All seasonal staff taken on work with and to the Chalet's permanent, year-round Managers.

We are looking for a professional Chef with 5 years + experience to join us for the upcoming winter season. We particularly encourage EU passport holders or those already in possession of a French CDS card to apply. We are however willing to obtain a work permit and long stay visa for a UK passport holder for the right person, whose experience and skills suit our high standards and specific requirements.

This is a seasonal position, fixed term, to start in December for 4 months.

The role involves: cooking for chalet share holder and owners, their family and guests. You must be able to cook to a budget, be highly organised, work as part oof a team, be able to plan, source provisions in order to provide breakfast (simple/self-service and done by a chalet host), cakes for afternoon tea and a nutritious 3 course (set) evening meal. The Chef is required for the whole of the winter season (mid December to early April). It is important that we also cater well for vegetarians, vegans and/or guests with pre-notified allergies or religious requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
Chef is entirely responsible for what goes on in the kitchen and what comes out. S/he buys or sources locally all meal products tor breakfast, afternoon tea, children’s (2 course) and adults’ (3 course) set evening meals. A rolling menu can be provided but we are open to a Chef who is prepared to demonstrate a strong, wholesome (not necessarily posh nosh) menu for our approval, using their own creative skill and flair. Seasonal and sustainable foodstuff should be used, we prefer that most meal elements are made from scratch.

Average daily numbers to cook for are 30 per evening + 5 staff. You will be required to work within a weekly budget of circa €10 per person per day.

You are expected to plan and provide good, wholesome, well-balanced evening meals 6 nights a week. In particular, a suitable, nourishing vegetarian/vegan/ nonallergen option must be provided as pre-notified or requested by guests.

Portion control, reducing food waste and increasing efficiencies are all important elements required.

Overall you should have excellent cookery and interpersonal skills, demonstrate you have high personal standards, be unflappable, be an excellent team member, be able to uphold excellent cleanliness and hygiene standards. All staff are expected to work flexibly throughout the season, and be excellent team players.

If you want to experience a winter season by living and working in the beautiful Mont Blanc region this opportunity may be for you. You will work shifts, generally morning prep session then an evening service, working an average of 35 hours per week. Each seasonal worker receives the equivalent of two non-consecutive days off (which days/time off will be confirmed ).

A French seasonal contract (CDD) will be offered. The job includes very good standard accommodation completely free of charge, all meals/beverages whilst working. An additional excellent additional benefit is the shared use by all staff of a chalet vehicle, which can be used by all to get to and from ski areas and for social use within reason. There is plenty of snowsport opportunity daily between the two work shifts.

Requirements

The right candidates will have worked in a stand alone chef position and have cooked and plated a 3 course set meal for max 40 adults in one sitting. A vegetarian or vegan alternative must be available as well as providing for any food allergies amongst guests. The chef must be capable of delivering a healthy menu, be self-motivated, always striving to achieve high personal and hygiene standards in kitchen and guest care; you should be able to demonstrate how you are highly organised and happy to work in and be part of small but dedicated winter team. It is imperative that you are reliable, tidy in your work, can commit fully to the role and to the entire season and be entirely flexible in your approach to work; you must be able to get along with people from all walks of life and backgrounds. Our clientele are predominantly British, therefore a command of spoken English is necessary. Some understanding of French would be useful too.

Along with the right experience, a current food hygiene certificate (min Level 2 - essential) is required or you must be willing to do and pass the on-line course (at your own cost) ; possession of a full clean driver's licence to be able to drive to purchase food provisions from the cash & carry store in Sallanches.

Very good accommodation for the season is provided and all food/beverages on working days. Travel out and back is paid for (a cap applies per trip); there is free reasonable use of a car for getting to and from the slopes and for social use; free valley train travel. Holiday pay accrues at 2.5 days per month and is generally paid up at the end of the contract.
