        Dental Nurse
        Smile Locum Agency
        Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, UK

As a dental nurse I play a vital role in supporting dentists and the wider dental team in delivering high-quality patient care. This includes preparing treatment rooms, ensuring strict hygiene standards, and offering chairside assistance during procedures. Dental Nurses also provide reassurance and information to patients, helping to create a calm and professional environment.

        Key Responsibilities:
        • Assisting the dentist during a wide range of clinical procedures (e.g. fillings, extractions, root canals)
        • Preparing and sterilising instruments and materials in compliance with infection control protocols
        • Ensuring the surgery is clean, well-organised, and ready for each patient
        • Taking accurate notes and updating patient records
        • Making patients feel comfortable and at ease before, during, and after treatment
        • Managing stock and ordering dental materials
        • Adhering to all health, safety, and data protection regulations (including CQC standards)
        • Supporting reception duties such as booking appointments, taking payments, and handling patient enquiries (where required)

      Education

      • Plymouth University
        BSc Hons Nursing (Child Health)
        2020 - 2024
As a Student Children’s Nurse, I combined academic study with hands-on clinical placements to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care to infants, children, young people, and their families.

        Key Responsibilities:
        • Delivering patient-centred care under the supervision of registered nurses in a variety of paediatric settings, including hospital wards, community clinics, and specialist units
        • Performing clinical tasks such as observations (temperature, pulse, respirations), medication administration (with supervision), wound care, and assisting with procedures
        • Supporting children and their families emotionally and practically during treatment, ensuring dignity and comfort at all times
        • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings and liaising with doctors, allied health professionals, and social services to contribute to individual care plans
        • Promoting health and wellbeing through education, play, and age-appropriate communication
        • Maintaining accurate, confidential patient records in accordance with NHS policies and NMC standards
        • Reflecting on practice, engaging in feedback, and applying learning to improve care delivery
